Global carbon pricing revenues reached a record $107 billion in 2025, according to the World Bank. This growth is driven by the expansion of emissions trading systems and carbon taxes in countries including India, Japan, and Vietnam, with nearly 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions now covered by a direct price. The average carbon price has doubled over the last decade, rising to approximately $21 per metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent. With new policies pending in Brazil and Turkey, the share of global emissions under pricing mechanisms is expected to increase further.
