Government revenues from carbon pricing have more than tripled over the last decade, reaching $107 billion in 2025. A new World Bank report shows that 87 carbon pricing policies are now active globally, covering nearly 30 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. These systems, including carbon taxes and emissions trading schemes, are expanding rapidly in middle income economies like India and Viet Nam. While average prices have risen to $21 per tonne, the report notes that governments are increasingly using the funds to finance clean energy and industrial transitions.
