The Global Carbon Council (GCC) has received eligibility approval from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). This certification means the GCC program aligns with the Core Carbon Principles, which are designed to increase transparency and environmental integrity in voluntary carbon credits. Based in Qatar, the GCC is now the only Global South carbon crediting program with both ICVCM eligibility and ICAO CORSIA accreditation. The council has registered over 213 projects across renewable energy, waste management, and energy efficiency, issuing more than 15 million credits to date.

Fair point on additionality. The ICVCM approval is supposed to vet that, but the devil is always in the project level data. 15 million credits is a decent volume, but the quality is what determines if this actually helps the climate.
