Glasgow's former janitor's houses to become low-carbon social housing
scottishconstructionnow.comGlasgow Building Preservation Trust is moving forward with a plan to buy three derelict former school janitor's houses from the city council. The Category B-listed buildings, built between 1885 and 1906, will be restored and retrofitted for energy efficiency before being sold to housing associations for social rent. The council committee decision is set for September 17th, with planning applications expected afterward. The project combines heritage conservation with low-carbon housing goals. Each house will get extensive repairs and sustainability upgrades, aiming to meet modern energy standards while preserving the historic fabric. Funding comes from GBPT's own resources plus heritage grants from the council and other sources. Legal support is provided pro bono by Dentons, and the design team is led by conservation architects HHVJ.
