Gigaton, a London-based company, has raised $26 million to deploy machine learning systems that autonomously control industrial manufacturing processes. The funding round was led by Plural with participation from 2150, Semapa Next, Planet A Ventures, AlbionVC, Cambridge Enterprise, and Clean Growth Fund. Gigaton's AI sits deep in the control stack of industrial facilities, operating plants in real time from London, including cement plants running at 1,500 degrees Celsius. Cement production alone accounts for roughly 8% of global CO2 emissions, with about 5,000 plants worldwide. Gigaton's approach is to directly control the hardware rather than just analyze or recommend. The company believes the physical world is already run by machines that simply lack the software for autonomous control. The fresh capital will support continued deployment of their industrial AI control systems across the most emissions-intensive manufacturing processes.
