Ghana is close to issuing forest carbon credits under its J-REDD+ programme, according to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. The jurisdictional framework aims to scale traditional REDD+ projects into a national carbon credit programme covering entire ecological zones, linking climate finance to sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods. Deputy Minister Yusif Sulemana called for a trusted international framework for jurisdictional credits at a London event with COP30 and COP31 leaders. The gathering, titled From Glasgow to Addis Ababa, also featured commitments from Nigeria, Indonesia, Peru, Brazil, and a major forest finance pledge from Norway. COP30 President Andre Aranha Correa do Lago said the initiative keeps momentum from ambition to implementation on forests. The push aligns with the 2030 target to halt and reverse forest loss, with Indonesia noting its mangroves represent about 23 percent of the world's total.
