Ghanaian MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh has called on the government to block low-quality carbon credit projects and build a transparent, high-integrity carbon market. Speaking in Parliament, he warned that weak projects with inflated claims, double counting, and poor community consultation have damaged the global carbon market's credibility. He urged Ghana to avoid becoming a destination for such projects and to insist on environmental integrity and transparent benefit sharing for every project. Annoh-Dompreh also stressed the need for domestic capacity building across project design, carbon accounting, legal contracting, and registry management. He argued that Ghana should not rely heavily on foreign consultants and should instead train local experts, universities, and district assemblies. The MP outlined priority sectors including renewable energy, methane reduction, forest restoration, and climate-smart agriculture as areas where Ghana could build a strong pipeline of high-quality carbon projects.
