Ghana is prioritizing carbon markets to diversify its climate financing as traditional concessional funding becomes harder to access. The government is focusing on forest resources and Article 6 agreements, including a key partnership with Switzerland to supply mitigation outcomes through clean cooking and waste management projects. Despite these goals, the country faces significant hurdles in technical capacity. Minister Baba Seidu Salifu noted that gaps in measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems and slow accreditation processes for global funds are currently limiting the scale of tradable carbon assets.
