The Green Finance Institute has launched the CDR Catalyst to bridge the funding gap for carbon removal projects in the UK. The initiative has already facilitated a 1 million pound loan from Oxbury Bank for Restord, a Cornwall-based biochar developer, using philanthropic capital from Terraset to reduce investment risk. This deal marks a shift from grant-dependency to commercial bankability for UK carbon removal. By combining forward credit purchases with traditional loans, the Catalyst aims to scale engineered removals to meet the UK's 2035 carbon budget targets.
