Gevo has signed its first multi-year carbon dioxide removal agreement with an unnamed enterprise software company. The deal covers a five-figure volume of CDR credits from Gevo's North Dakota ethanol plant with bioenergy carbon capture and storage, managed by Ceezer through 2029. It follows a separate 10,000-tonne CDR sale and brings more visibility to voluntary carbon market demand for BECCS credits. Gevo says the 65-million-gallon-per-year plant has stored 700,000 tonnes of CO2 since BECCS operations started in June 2022. The company positions the project as one of the first commercial-scale BECCS facilities delivering verified credits in the U.S. voluntary market. The broader ethanol industry could offer room to scale, with 17.4 billion gallons of production capacity reported in 2022 and roughly 94 BECCS projects under development globally.
