Gevo sells 10,000 carbon removal credits via ClimeFi, passes 700,000 tons stored at North Dakota BECCS site
quiverquant.comGevo has sold and delivered 10,000 carbon dioxide removal credits through ClimeFi, with the credits generated at its North Dakota ethanol plant. The facility captures biogenic CO2 from fermentation and stores it underground, and Gevo says it has now stored more than 700,000 tons since operations began. Buyers listed on its registry include Nasdaq, Whirlpool, Amgen, and PayPal. The sale is a useful signal for the voluntary carbon market, where most contracted removals have not yet been delivered. According to CDR.fyi, only about 3% of roughly 50 million contracted tons have reached buyers. Gevo's North Dakota project is among the first commercial-scale U.S. BECCS sites to deliver verified credits, which gives it a concrete track record to point to. The bigger question is whether future credit sales can scale enough to become a meaningful revenue stream.
