Gevo sells 10,000 carbon removal credits from North Dakota BECCS project via ClimeFi
streetinsider.comGevo completed the sale and delivery of 10,000 carbon dioxide removal credits to a corporate buyer through ClimeFi. The credits come from Gevo's North Dakota facility, where biogenic CO2 from ethanol production is captured and stored in geologic sequestration more than a mile underground. The company says the site has generated more than 700,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal since capture operations began. ClimeFi sourced and facilitated the transfer to support the buyer's carbon management strategy. Gevo calls the project one of the first commercial-scale U.S. BECCS operations delivering verified credits to the voluntary carbon market. The company is targeting more than $30 million in annual revenue from its carbon business based on existing operations. Earlier buyers include Nasdaq and Whirlpool, with Amgen and PayPal listed through intermediary purchases. The sale is small compared with the overall carbon removal market. CDR.fyi data cited in the release says only about 3% of roughly 50 million contracted tons have been delivered to date. That gap between contracted and delivered volume is worth watching as buyers push for verified tons rather than forward claims.
