Gevo North Dakota ethanol plant captures CO2 for permanent storage and issues Puro.earth CORCs
ethanolproducer.comGevo's Richardton, North Dakota ethanol plant is capturing fermentation CO2 and injecting it about 6,500 feet underground into the Broom Creek Formation. The project has issued more than 623,000 Puro.earth CORCs, each representing a verified metric ton of CO2 removal with a 1,000-year durability rating. That makes it the first ethanol plant to generate CORCs under Puro's Geologically Stored Carbon methodology. Most of the corn supply comes from within 75 miles, and the plant paid roughly $86 million to local farmers in 2025. The site currently makes about 65 million gallons of ethanol per year and plans to expand to 75 million gallons. Permanent CO2 storage capacity is around 180,000 metric tons annually.
