Gevo North Dakota debottlenecking adds CO2 capture, fermenter capacity and lower carbon intensity
ethanolproducer.comGevo says its North Dakota ethanol plant is making progress on a debottlenecking project designed to boost output and cut the facility's carbon intensity. The work includes a third liquefaction tank, a fifth fermenter, and a beer degassing system that captures additional CO2 from the ethanol process. The degassing system is already being commissioned, ahead of schedule, and should let the plant recover more CO2, free up distillation capacity, and improve its CI score. The liquefaction and fermentation assets are still under construction and are expected to be operational by the end of 2026. Gevo frames the work as practical, high-return upgrades to an existing facility rather than a major new build. For anyone tracking low-carbon fuel production, this is a useful example of how incremental plant-level changes can move the economics and the emissions profile at the same time.
