Gevo and ClimeFi complete 10,000-ton carbon removal credit sale from North Dakota BECCS project
manilatimes.netGevo has sold and delivered 10,000 carbon dioxide removal credits through ClimeFi to an unnamed corporate buyer. The credits come from Gevo's North Dakota ethanol plant, where biogenic CO2 from fermentation is captured and injected into a Class VI well more than a mile underground. The company says the site has generated more than 700,000 tons of carbon removal since injections began. Context matters here. CDR.fyi data cited in the release shows only about 3% of roughly 50 million contracted tons across the CDR market have actually been delivered. That makes this sale notable: it is physical delivery, not just an offtake agreement. Gevo also names Nasdaq and Whirlpool as customers and points to a goal of $30 million in annual carbon revenue from existing operations. Anyone tracking BECCS, voluntary carbon markets, or carbon credit delivery should read the full release. The main open question is how much of the 700,000 tons is verified and available as credits, and the press release does not break that out.
