Gentari installs 3.1 MWp solar system at KLIA2 airport mall, cutting 3,310 tonnes of CO2 annually

Gentari, the green energy arm of PETRONAS, has completed a 3.1 MWp solar photovoltaic installation at the gateway@KLIA2 mall in Kuala Lumpur. The system uses 5,212 panels across rooftop and car park areas covering 10,500 square meters. It is expected to generate 4,277 MWh of electricity per year and reduce carbon emissions by about 3,310 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually. The project was done under a power purchase agreement with Segi Astana, the mall operator, and adds to existing clean energy efforts at KLIA Terminal 2, including 12 EV charging points. This deployment aligns with Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap, which targets higher renewable energy adoption across key sectors. The solar car park structures also provide shaded parking for passengers and staff. The project shows how transport infrastructure can integrate on-site solar generation to lower emissions and improve energy efficiency. It is a practical example of corporate renewable energy procurement in Southeast Asia's airport and retail real estate segment.
