General Fusion, a 24 year old fusion energy company based in British Columbia, completed its merger with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp. III to become the first publicly traded fusion stock. Shares will trade on Nasdaq under GFUZ starting Monday. The deal was valued at about $1 billion and follows layoffs and a public plea for investment from the CEO earlier this year. The company is working on commercial fusion power, which would produce electricity without carbon emissions. It recently announced a partnership with Renexia to plan deployment in Italy. Fusion has not yet been proven at commercial scale, so the stock carries significant technical risk alongside the potential for a breakthrough in clean baseload power.
