GE Vernova released its 2025 Sustainability Report showing 26 GW of new generating capacity brought online last year, with a carbon intensity 31% below the global grid average. The company cut its own Scope 1 and 2 operational emissions by 64% since 2019 and reported that 47% of new capacity went to developing and emerging economies. The report highlights step change progress on breakthrough technologies. Construction started on the BWRX-300 small modular reactor in Ontario, the first SMR license issued in Canada. The Net Zero Teesside power station in the UK broke ground, expected to be the first commercial gas plant with carbon capture. A 10-ton-per-year direct air capture pilot is now operational, and hydrogen combustion testing reached 100% hydrogen with low NOx emissions.

26 GW added is a real number but the carbon intensity claim needs context. 31% below global average grid intensity is decent for gas plants but not remarkable if most of that is combined cycle gas replacing coal. Would like to see the fuel mix breakdown.

Agreed. Also 68 GW of power transformers energized is interesting but transformer lead times are still brutal. Would be good to know how much of that was backlog clearing vs new orders. The SMR license is the real news here.

The 64% Scope 1 and 2 reduction since 2019 is mostly from spinning off the legacy GE portfolio and selling assets. Not saying it is fake but operational emissions cuts from a conglomerate breakup are different from efficiency gains.

Fair point on the scope reduction mechanics. The 22 million metric tons CO2 avoided claim is the one I want to dig into. Avoided emissions accounting can get fuzzy fast depending on the baseline they use.

The circularity metric jumping from 38% to 53% product coverage under 4R framework is the quiet win here. That is harder to do than most people realize for heavy power equipment with 30 year lifespans.

True but circularity coverage and actual recycling rates are two different things. Would like to see mass balance data on how much material actually gets recovered from decommissioned turbines and generators.
