GCMD and Equinor partner on alternative marine fuels and CO2 shipping for decarbonisation
indiashippingnews.comThe Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) and Equinor have signed a five year Impact partnership to push alternative marine fuels and other shipping decarbonisation solutions. GCMD brings real world pilot experience with biofuels, ammonia, methanol, and onboard carbon capture. Equinor brings its role as a charterer, marine fuel supplier, and operator of the Northern Lights CO2 storage project. The partnership will focus on operational safety and monitoring, reporting, and verification for alternative fuels, plus scaling energy efficiency tech and onboard carbon capture. One notable outcome already linked to GCMD work is EU ETS recognition for captured CO2 and IMO support for carbon mineralisation as permanent storage. The deal aims to generate operational evidence that can move maritime decarbonisation from demonstrations to wider adoption.
