The Global Cement and Concrete Association and the Global CCS Institute signed a two-year agreement to speed up carbon capture and storage deployment in cement production. Cement is one of the hardest industries to decarbonize because process emissions come from the chemical reaction itself, not just fuel. The partnership will create a high-level roundtable with industry leaders, policymakers, and investors to identify barriers and push projects forward. This matters because cement makes up about 8% of global CO2 emissions, and CCS is one of the few options for dealing with those unavoidable process emissions. The roundtable aims to share technical knowledge and advocate for policies that make CCS projects viable. If this partnership leads to real project pipelines, it could unlock significant demand for carbon storage and credits tied to industrial decarbonization.
