The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics reports that the Gaza conflict has produced 33.2 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. This includes 1.9 million tons from direct military operations plus emissions from debris removal and reconstruction. The total is comparable to the annual emissions of some countries or the output of 7.6 million gasoline-powered vehicles in a year. The conflict has also caused severe environmental damage. Water infrastructure destruction drove the price of a cubic meter of water in Gaza to 211 shekels in 2025, up from 30 shekels in 2023. Around 710,000 tons of household waste and 60 million tons of debris have accumulated after more than 330,000 housing units were destroyed. About 86 percent of agricultural land has been affected by shelling and military vehicle movement.

Agreed. The article says 1.9 million tons from direct military ops, but the rest is from pre conflict and post conflict activities. That post conflict part is where the real carbon cost lives.

Also 60 million tons of debris. Moving that much material burns a lot of diesel. The reconstruction phase will add more emissions unless they go with low carbon methods.
