Gatwick Airport Invests £1m in UK Nature-Based Carbon Removals
airport-suppliers.comGatwick Airport Limited has partnered with Kent and Somerset Wildlife Trusts to fund the restoration of degraded agricultural land. The £1 million investment aims to remove 10,000 tonnes of CO2e through the Wilder Carbon Standard, focusing on peat health and species-rich habitats. This initiative targets residual Scope 1 and 2 emissions that the airport cannot eliminate through direct capital improvements. The projects serve as a long-term strategy to reach net zero by 2030 while supporting regional biodiversity and flood alleviation.
