Gambian VP praises Tianjin Port zero-carbon terminal as model for climate vulnerable nations

Gambian Vice President Muhammad B.S. Jallow visited Tianjin Port in northern China and praised its fully automated zero-carbon terminal as a model for aligning economic growth with environmental protection. He noted that climate change poses an existential threat to The Gambia, where the capital city sits just one meter above sea level, and said the port's approach offers practical lessons for his country. The port is the world's first fully automated zero-carbon terminal and connects to over 500 ports across 180 countries. Jallow also highlighted China's zero-tariff policy for 53 African nations, which he said opens new export opportunities for Gambian groundnuts and cashews. The visit underscores growing interest in low-carbon infrastructure as a tool for both development and climate resilience.
