GAC Wins 8 Auto Tech Awards, Including 4 First Prizes, for Electric Drive and Safety Innovation
themalaysianreserve.comGAC took home 8 awards at the 2026 China-SAE Science and Technology Award ceremony, including 4 first prizes. The recognition spans automotive chips, electric drive, vehicle safety, and intelligent driving governance. The most relevant part for the clean energy crowd is the electric drive work: GAC says it is now the only company mass-producing amorphous alloy automotive motors, with a peak efficiency of 99.03% and a power density of 17.29 kW/kg at 1000V. That translates to roughly 4% lower energy consumption and 30-50 km more range from the same battery pack, according to the company. GAC also highlighted a domestically designed chip project involving 105 partners and a safety controller developed with Tsinghua University. Some of the electric drive components are already in HYPTEC, AION, and AISTALAND models. As with any corporate press release, the efficiency and range claims are worth verifying independently. But the motor tech itself points toward meaningful efficiency gains for EVs, which matters for lifecycle emissions and grid load per kilometer traveled.
