Furnace carbon black is a core industrial material used in tires, rubber goods, plastics, inks, and coatings. The market was worth about $16 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $17.06 billion in 2026, then $21.72 billion by 2030, according to The Business Research Company. Growth is tied to tire production, specialty grades, and rising demand for conductive and battery-grade carbon black as electric vehicles scale. Producers are also moving toward more sustainable feedstocks. Orion S.A. launched a bio-circular carbon black called ECOLAR 50 POWDER for coatings, and Tokai Carbon acquired Bridgestone Carbon Black in Thailand for $56 million to strengthen supply in Southeast Asia. These moves signal that cost, supply stability, and lower-carbon production are all part of the competitive picture.
