Funding Gaps in Ocean Climate Solutions and Offshore Wind in Asia

Ocean-based climate solutions, including offshore wind and shipping decarbonization, could provide up to half of the emissions reductions needed by mid-century. However, philanthropic funding for these initiatives remains extremely low, often focusing on conservation rather than active mitigation. In Asia, the intersection of shipbuilding, port infrastructure, and massive offshore wind potential creates a critical opportunity. While philanthropy cannot fund the hardware, it can accelerate the transition by financing marine spatial planning, regulatory design, and grid integration research.
