Fugro has won a contract from Saipem to provide marine survey and inspection services for the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), the UK's first offshore carbon capture and storage project. The work covers nearshore and offshore surveys along a 145-kilometer pipeline route that will carry CO2 from an onshore gathering network to injection wells in the Endurance saline aquifer, about 75 kilometers east of Flamborough Head. Fugro will monitor installation and verify seabed conditions at pipeline and cable crossings to help Saipem manage risk during construction. The NEP project is a joint venture between BP, Equinor, and TotalEnergies. Storage is expected to start in 2028, with the initial phase targeting up to 100 million tons of CO2 stored over 25 years. This contract award shows the supply chain is moving from planning into execution for the UK's first offshore CCS project, with survey and inspection work being a critical step before CO2 can flow.

2028 target for first injection. That gives them about two years to finish pipeline installation and commissioning. Survey work now is the easy part. The real risk is whether the onshore compression and gathering network stays on schedule.

100 million tons over 25 years is about 4 million tons per year. That is a meaningful volume for UK industrial emissions but still small relative to total national emissions. Good to see it moving though.
