Frontier Infrastructure and Carbonfuture partner on largest ethanol BECCS carbon removal deal
ethanolproducer.comFrontier Infrastructure Holdings and Carbonfuture have signed a multi-year agreement to sell 750,000 durable carbon removal credits from Frontier's ethanol BECCS project, Project Sprint. The credits will be available to corporate and institutional buyers through Carbonfuture's platform, with sequestration expected to start in Q4 2027. Captured CO2 will be transported by rail to geologic storage in Wyoming, bypassing the need for new pipelines. The removals will be certified under Puro.earth's Geologically Stored Carbon methodology, with verification by Mangrove Systems. This deal is notable because it pre-sells credits before operations begin, giving ethanol producers a route to market for carbon removal without waiting on pipeline infrastructure. The use of rail for CO2 transport could be a practical model for other Midwest ethanol plants looking to enter carbon markets. The partnership highlights growing demand for durable removals and the need for scalable, verifiable supply chains in the carbon removal sector.
