Frontier coalition adds $915 million for carbon removal, brings in Anthropic
economictimes.indiatimes.comA coalition backed by Stripe, Google, and other Big Tech companies has added $915 million to its carbon removal fund, bringing total pledges to $1.8 billion. The group, called Frontier, also added AI company Anthropic as a new participant. Frontier plans to make 10 to 15 long-term offtake contracts lasting eight to ten years, targeting technologies like direct air capture, ocean alkalinity enhancement, and enhanced rock weathering. The approach is to derisk early-stage carbon removal projects by guaranteeing future purchases. Frontier says these technologies could reach gigaton scale but each carries distinct cost and technical risks. The coalition did not disclose individual company contributions. The new funding extends contracts as far as 2040.
