The Frontier coalition, backed by Stripe, Google, and now Anthropic, has added $915 million to its carbon removal fund, bringing total commitments to $1.8 billion. The money will support technologies like ocean alkalinization, enhanced rock weathering, biomass-based removal, and direct air capture. Frontier plans around 10 to 15 offtake agreements over eight to ten years, with deployment targeted by 2040. Individual company contributions were not disclosed. Each technology has different costs and technical risks, but the coalition says they could collectively reach gigaton scale. Carbon removal is seen as a critical tool for offsetting hard-to-abate emissions from sectors still reliant on fossil fuels. Anthropic's addition signals growing interest from AI companies in funding climate solutions.
