Frontier Climate, the carbon removal buyer group backed by Stripe, Google, Shopify and others, signed a deal with 44.01 to remove and store 20,932 tons of CO2 using in-situ mineralization. The process injects dissolved CO2 into magnesium-rich rock, where it turns solid over one to three years. Total value is $11.7 million, with delivery scheduled between 2028 and 2031. This is Frontier's first deal in this pathway and only its second offtake of the year. The company says in-situ mineralization could open storage in places where conventional geologic storage is too expensive or unavailable. 44.01 plans to use the money to cut water and energy use and improve monitoring, including with remote sensors and AI.
