Frontier and Carbon Removal Canada have established the Quebec Surficial Mineralization Hub in Thetford Mines. This facility serves as a testing center for accelerated rock weathering, a process that uses serpentinite rock to permanently lock away CO2 as carbonate minerals. The project leverages existing mining tailings in Quebec to lower costs and scale carbon removal. Frontier estimates that this approach could eventually remove hundreds of gigatons of CO2 at a cost of under 80 dollars per ton.
