France and Germany Agree to Loosen EU Car Emission Rules, Include UK in Made in Europe Scheme
aol.co.ukFrance and Germany reached a provisional deal on Thursday to ease EU car emissions rules. The agreement scraps the requirement for automakers to compensate for the remaining 10% of emissions after a 90% reduction target, and it extends super credits for electric vehicles to all sizes. Renewable fuels can also count as zero-emission under the draft plan. The deal also narrows the made in Europe definition for cars to the EU's 27 countries, with an opt-in for Britain and Norway under certain conditions. The European Commission had proposed a broader definition. The agreement is pending final sign-off from Berlin and could reshape the bloc's automotive and climate policies.
