Four Indian Climate Startups Join Google AI for Planet Accelerator for Carbon Removal and Land Intelligence
convergence-now.comGoogle has selected four Indian startups for its AI for the Planet accelerator, a 16-company cohort focused on using artificial intelligence to tackle environmental issues across Asia Pacific. The chosen companies are Climitra Carbon, which converts biomass into bio-coal and biochar for steelmaking and carbon removal; Farmers for Forests, which pays farmers to restore degraded land; Terrastack, a geospatial platform for rural land records; and Varaha Climate, which runs carbon removal projects with smallholder farmers across South Asia and West Africa. Over the next three months, they will receive access to Google's AI tools, technical support, and mentorship from experts. Google is also scaling its climate efforts in India beyond the accelerator. The company plans to expand its AI-powered Solar API to survey 300 million rooftops, has signed a deal to purchase 1 million carbon credits from Mitti Labs for rice farming projects, and has a 150 MW solar power agreement with ReNew Power. These moves indicate a broader push to connect AI tools with tangible climate outcomes in the region.
