Fortune Global 500 Company Buys 1 Million ARR Carbon Credits Through Climate Impact Partners
carbonherald.comA Fortune Global 500 company has agreed to purchase 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide removal credits from the GreenTrees Mississippi Alluvial Valley Reforestation Project. The deal was arranged by Climate Impact Partners and uses a staggered spot purchase structure that combines issued credits with newer vintages still in verification. This approach is meant to reduce the financial gap between verification and landowner payments while lowering delivery risk for the buyer. The GreenTrees project is the largest reforestation effort in the US and the first ARR project to receive approved tonnes under the Core Carbon Principles from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market. To date the project has removed nearly 8 million tonnes of CO2 by planting over 50 million trees across 140,000 acres of marginal farmland. It has also engaged nearly 600 landowners in low-income regions of the Mississippi Delta and created habitat for more than 325 bird species. The deal signals continued corporate demand for high-integrity nature-based carbon credits. The structure of the purchase may also offer a template for other buyers looking to balance upfront financing with verified delivery, though the specific Fortune 500 company has not been named in the announcement.
