The U.S. Army has completed a 30 million dollar modernization project at Fort Polk in Louisiana, installing the first large scale geothermal energy system at a military base. The project replaces fossil fuel heating for 3,600 homes with U.S. made geothermal equipment to reduce the installation's carbon footprint. This shift toward energy resiliency is expected to cut annual electrical consumption and reduce energy bills for residents by 30 percent. The project is projected to deliver over 2.6 million dollars in annual utility and operational cost savings while supporting local workforce growth.
