Research from National Taipei University of Technology compares the environmental impact and energy yield of offshore floating photovoltaic systems against traditional land-based solar farms. The study highlights how water-based installations can overcome land scarcity in densely populated regions. Findings indicate that offshore floating solar can generate approximately 12% more electricity over its lifetime. This increase is driven by the natural cooling effect of water, which prevents panel overheating and maintains higher operational efficiency compared to onshore sites.
