Flintshire cottage demolition clears path for housing and Hynet carbon capture pipeline

A cottage in Ewloe, Flintshire, sold for 2.5 million pounds, will be demolished to make way for a 276 home housing development and the Hynet carbon capture pipeline. The Hynet project will pipe carbon emissions from industrial sites in Cheshire and Deeside to storage in empty gas wells under the Irish Sea. The cottage sits above the planned pipeline route, and the subsoil rights have already been secured. Flintshire County Council confirmed the demolition does not need planning permission. The housing plan from Castle Green Homes is still under review, with a decision expected by July 3. A previous 315 home proposal was rejected on density grounds. The new plan for 276 homes has drawn 35 local objections, including from a Senedd member. The project shows how carbon capture infrastructure is starting to shape local land use and development decisions in the UK.
