First WATT Renewable and MTN Nigeria Partner on 34 MWp Solar and 40 MWh Battery Storage for Telecom Sites

First WATT Renewable has signed a partnership with MTN Nigeria to install 34 MWp of solar PV and 40 MWh of battery storage across MTN's critical facilities in Nigeria. The hybrid solar-plus-storage systems are meant to power telecom infrastructure, reducing reliance on diesel generators and improving energy reliability for mobile networks in the region. The deal targets MTN's sites that currently depend on grid electricity and backup diesel. By switching to solar and batteries, MTN expects to cut operational fuel costs and lower carbon emissions. This kind of telecom-sector renewable deployment is becoming more common across Africa, where grid power is often unreliable and diesel is expensive. The project gives a concrete example of how commercial and industrial solar can work at scale in a challenging grid environment.
