CarbonPool and Oka have completed the first insurance placement under Verra's durability pilot, covering carbon developer Invert. The policy lets Invert replace the usual buffer pool contribution with insurance, which frees up credits that would otherwise be locked away as a safety reserve. Verra launched the three-year pilot in December 2025 to test whether insurance and fund-based options can protect against reversal risk while improving project cash flow. The deal matters because buffer pools tie up a portion of issued credits and developers cannot sell them. Insurance swaps that locked capital for a premium, but it does not prevent reversals such as forest fires or geological leakage. It only provides money to replace lost credits. The pilot will show whether insurers can price this risk accurately and whether buyers trust the coverage. Financial details of the Invert placement were not disclosed.
