Danish biomethane producer BioCirc has started trucking captured biogenic CO2 from its first biogas-based carbon capture and storage (BECCS) plant in Vesthimmerland, Denmark. The facility aims to remove 32,500 tonnes of CO2 per year. The liquefied CO2 is transported to the port of Esbjerg and injected permanently beneath the seabed as part of Project Greensand. BioCirc recently signed a seven-year deal to deliver 650,000 tonnes of carbon removal units to Microsoft, supporting the tech giant's 2030 carbon-negative goal. The company operates eight industrial-scale biogas plants in Denmark. The country's technical potential for capturing biogenic CO2 ranges between 3.5 and 7 million tonnes per year, mainly from biomass plants, waste incineration, and biogas facilities.
