Filinvest's joint venture with ENGIE has delivered significant energy and carbon savings through district cooling. The system at Filinvest City saved over 108 GWh of electricity as of mid-2026, worth about P2.42 billion, and avoided more than 76,000 metric tons of CO2. The company says its cooling plants operate at around 0.60 kW per ton of refrigeration, cutting energy use by at least 40% compared to conventional setups. PDDC now manages 27,600 tons of refrigeration capacity across projects like Clark International Airport and Festival Mall, with total savings of 120,000 MWh and 84,000 tons of CO2 avoided. They are also offering their end-to-end cooling solutions to outside property owners without requiring upfront capital, which could help more commercial districts in the Philippines cut electricity costs and carbon footprints. The story is a concrete example of how centralized cooling infrastructure can drive efficiency gains in tropical, high-density urban areas. It also highlights a business model where energy service companies absorb upfront costs and recover them through savings, a structure worth watching for replication.
