Fiji Airways hosted the country's first aviation-focused carbon market training, bringing together the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Forestry, and the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji. The goal is to develop high-integrity carbon projects within Fiji that meet CORSIA offsetting requirements for international flights. The airline's Maroroya Sustainability Strategy ties this work to existing conservation efforts like the 'Every Take-Off, One Tree' program, which has planted over 101,000 mangroves. The training aims to build local capability so Fiji can shape how it meets international obligations while protecting the environment and benefiting communities. Deputy conservator of forests Apisai Rinamalo noted that a carbon trading partnership with Fiji Airways would allow the forestry sector to support aviation and tourism in reaching net zero goals. Participants will now work with government ministries to explore developing CORSIA-eligible carbon projects in Fiji.
