Fervo Energy Stock Up as Utah Geothermal Plant Reaches First Power
theglobeandmail.comFervo Energy shares rose after the company announced it achieved First Power at its Cape Station geothermal project in Utah. This marks the first utility-scale enhanced geothermal system (EGS) to deliver electricity to the grid. The initial phase is about 100 megawatts, with a 400 MW phase under construction and targeted for 2028. Fervo has roughly 900 MW of contracted capacity at the site. Enhanced geothermal provides carbon-free, baseload power that runs around the clock, complementing intermittent wind and solar. It also uses less land and has a mostly U.S.-based supply chain. The milestone is a step toward commercializing a technology that could help meet rising electricity demand from data centers and electrification.
