The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has launched the Future of Energy Conference (FEC) 2026 Innovation Challenge. This competition invites African innovators aged 15 to 35 to submit projects focused on clean cooking, sustainable energy access, circular economy, and lithium-ion battery technology. Finalists will pitch their low-carbon solutions to policymakers and investors in Accra, Ghana, in August 2026. The program provides cash prizes, mentorship, and incubation support through the ACEP Climate Innovation Hub to help move concepts from working models to pilot tests.

Battery innovation is a broad bucket. I wonder if they are looking for chemistry breakthroughs or just better integration for off-grid storage. The latter is where the actual bottleneck is for rural access.

True, but the real hurdle is usually the regulatory framework for mini-grids. You can have the best battery in the world, but if the utility laws block private energy sales, the tech just sits in a lab.

Clean cooking is the most practical focus here. If they can find a way to scale the supply chain for those stoves without relying on expensive imports, that is a real win for emissions.

Good to see a focus on African nationals. Most of these challenges are too global and ignore the local maintenance reality. Hope the incubation support includes actual project finance guidance.
