Fastmarkets has introduced a daily pricing service that tracks the cost of carbon embedded in imported goods under the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The new tool aims to fill a gap in market transparency by providing daily price assessments for the carbon component of imports like steel, aluminum, and cement. This helps companies and traders better estimate compliance costs and manage risk as CBAM phases in. The service covers the cost of EU Allowances (EUAs) adjusted for the specific carbon intensity of imported products. It gives importers a clearer view of the price they will pay for carbon at the border, which has been a murky area since CBAM's transitional phase began. Fastmarkets says the data is designed for use in contracts, hedging, and internal carbon pricing. For carbon market participants, this is a practical step. CBAM is still new and pricing has been opaque. A daily benchmark makes it easier to compare costs across suppliers and regions. It also signals that carbon border adjustments are becoming a standard part of trade finance, not just a policy talking point.
