Fastmarkets has introduced a daily pricing service for carbon costs under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). The new tool provides importers with a daily view of the carbon price embedded in goods crossing into the EU, addressing a lack of transparent, real-time data for compliance and planning. CBAM requires importers of steel, cement, aluminum, fertilizers, electricity, and hydrogen to purchase certificates matching the EU carbon price. Until now, firms had to rely on quarterly or monthly estimates. Fastmarkets says its daily assessment covers the cost of embedded emissions, helping companies manage financial exposure and adjust sourcing decisions. The move signals growing demand for granular carbon price data as CBAM's transitional phase began in October 2023 and full implementation approaches in 2026. For traders and compliance officers, daily pricing reduces uncertainty in a market where carbon costs can swing sharply.
