Fashion Coalition Targets Lower-Carbon Supply Chains with Next-Gen Materials and Financing
just-style.comA new coalition called The Climate Pledge Fashion Coalition is bringing together over 60 fashion brands, manufacturers, and technology firms to reduce environmental impacts in apparel production. The group aims to aggregate demand for next-generation materials and manufacturing methods that cut water use, chemical inputs, and emissions, with support from the World Economic Forum and Canopy's Next Gen Now programme. It will also create financing structures that combine development finance institution de-risking with private investment to help suppliers and material innovators secure funding. The coalition's focus is on the production stage, not just recycling, and it plans to use insights from real projects to inform environmental policymaking. A new Fashion Coalition Lever Library will provide guidance on more than 100 interventions, from fiber types to a directory of innovators. The initiative signals a shift toward industry-wide collaboration to make sustainable materials commercially viable, though specifics on how emissions reductions will be measured and verified remain to be seen.
