Researchers at UConn developed a planning framework to identify where EV charging infrastructure is most needed, combining flood risk, environmental burden, socioeconomic vulnerability, and existing transportation gaps. The Electric Vehicle Viability Score (EVVS) ranks Connecticut towns to guide equitable investment, especially in underserved communities that face multiple intersecting challenges. The framework also highlights how EVs can act as mobile storage to improve grid resilience during outages. This approach moves beyond simple charger placement to address energy justice and climate adaptation. The team plans to add a temporal dimension and community input to make the model scalable for other states.
