EY US and Watershed have formed an alliance to help companies measure and report greenhouse gas emissions across their value chains. The partnership combines Watershed's sustainability software with EY's advisory and implementation services, covering scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, product carbon footprints, and sustainability data management. The move comes as companies face tighter disclosure rules, including California's SB 253 and Europe's CSRD. Most large firms still struggle with scope 3 data, which comes from suppliers and customers rather than their own operations. The alliance is aimed at turning raw data into reports that hold up under scrutiny. For carbon credit and climate finance watchers, the interesting part is whether these tools lead to actual emission reductions, not just better disclosure. Reporting is a prerequisite, but it is not the same as cutting emissions.
